I like books in a series because you begin to feel like the characters are old friends. These last two books labeled as Shelter Bay were anything but. With the exception of Kara and Sax (very limited) none of the old characters were there. We never did find out how the town rebuilt after the storm in book 3 This should be labeled a stand-alone book, not part of the series. I read it in only a few hours and never did feel connected to the characters.

The story line is predictable and almost nonexistent. But the fill was well done-a lot of quite interesting background, color, and historical detail. As a romance, it just drifted along and concluded as expected. As a suspense, it lacked tension, believability, and grit. All along I could see the set ups for the next book. That’s ok if the book I am reading is compellingly. I skimmed this and can’t imagine wanting more of the same. I have enjoyed her books in the past so I recommend reading her early works. She is just mailing them in now.

I love Shelter Bay. Have since the very first book about Sax. Always love it when he turns up. The one was a real page turner. Really worth the time. A great read.
