Title: Crime in Progress Pdf Inside the Steele Dossier and the Fusion GPS Investigation of Donald Trump
Before Ukraine, before impeachment: This is the never-before-told inside story of the high-stakes, four-year-long investigation into Donald Trump’s Russia ties—culminating in the Steele dossier, and sparking the Mueller report—from the founders of political opposition research company Fusion GPS.

“A fascinating read. An extraordinary book.”—Andrea Mitchell

“A master class in how Washington works.”—The Atlantic

Fusion GPS was founded in 2010 by Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, two former reporters at The Wall Street Journal who decided to abandon the struggling news business and use their reporting skills to conduct open-source investigations for businesses and law firms—and opposition research for political candidates. In the fall of 2015, they were hired to look into the finances of Donald Trump.

What began as a march through a mind-boggling trove of lawsuits, bankruptcies, and sketchy overseas projects soon took a darker turn: The deeper Fusion dug, the more it began to notice names that Simpson and Fritsch had come across during their days covering Russian corruption—and the clearer it became that the focus of Fusion’s research going forward would be Trump’s entanglements with Russia.

To help them make sense of what they were seeing, Simpson and Fritsch engaged the services of a former British intelligence agent and Russia expert named Christopher Steele. He would produce a series of memos—which collectively became known as the Steele dossier—that raised deeply alarming questions about the nature of Trump’s ties to a hostile foreign power. Those memos made their way to U.S. intelligence agencies, and then to President Barack Obama and President-elect Trump. On January 10, 2017, the Steele dossier broke into public view, and the Trump-Russia story reached escape velocity. At the time, Fusion GPS was just a ten-person consulting firm tucked away above a Starbucks near Dupont Circle, but it would soon be thrust into the center of the biggest news story on the planet—a story that would lead to accusations of witch hunts, a relentless campaign of persecution by congressional Republicans, bizarre conspiracy theories, lawsuits by Russian oligarchs, and the Mueller report.

In Crime in Progress, Simpson and Fritsch tell their story for the first time—a tale of the high-stakes pursuit of one of the biggest, most important stories of our time—no matter the costs.

Fascinating Wow...utterly fascinating and well researched.Reads like a well constructed police procedural only this time you know the characters and have a strong opinion about “who done it”. Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch are the co-founders of Fusion GPS, a political opposition research company that was hired to investigate the finances of POTUS, DJT. Their investigation brought unearthed details that lead them to Russia, Vladimir Putin and what is now known as the Steele Dossier.Simpson and Fritsch write in a style that is informative and engaging without histrionics and partisan attacks. Their writing is reminiscent of reporting from the days before the news division belonged to the entertainment department...Much of what is said during the body of the book is conversational, which I found odd in an investigation book, but there was a very good reason for it which I’ll share later.“Crime in “Progress” is broken down into 18 chapters that tell this story in an almost day by day, hour by hour manner. I had flashbacks of Jack in episodes of 24. The book proper ends in page 276 and then begins the substantial collection of notes and a bibliography. For over 40 pages, the authors recreate their best attempt at substantiating the source for each reference, chapter by chapter and chronological within each chapter. Much of what was written had to be done very carefully to avoid breaking contractual privileges. I applaud the authors for their integrity and for presenting an highly readable, non-offending volume 📚All the President's Russian Influence origin story What the book is: an All The President's Men-style whodunnit. The origins (they were hired by conservative Republicans) to research the business dealings of Trump. What they found: evidence of organized crime and Russian business dealings. What happened to them as they investigated the real ties between Trump and Russian individuals and the government: smears and attacks at the hands of pro-Trump forces in Congress led by the White House. What it isn't: a polemic attack on Trump. It's important to remember Fritsch and Simpson, former Wall Street Journal editor and writer, have a long history of being a pain in the ass for everyone from foreign dictators, Al-Qaeda, and even Democrats like Bill and Hillary Clinton. The tired trope they are Democratic opposition researchers is wrong and this book shows why.
